Oct 29, 2019 The Burning White is a brilliant conclusion to a strong series with some minor flaws. The Lightbringer is unpolished, one of a kind, a rollercoaster with no brakes, and worth your time. Weeks should be proud of what he has accomplished, and in the hollow wake of finishing this massive story, I find myself excited to see what he is going to do next. Review copy provided by the publisher—Orbit—in exchange for an honest reviewEpic engaging well written and surprisingly full of theologyHere we are nine years since The Black Prism was first published The Burning White—the fifth and final installment in the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks—is finally out and with it the Lightbringer pentalogy is officially over This is one of my—along with many fantasy readers—most anticipated books of the year to make sure that I’ll be able to appreciate it fully I even binged reread the series from the beginning—something I rarely do—in preparation Now that I’ve read it I have to say that I’m both satisfied and also disappointed with it Don’t get me wrong as far as enjoyment goes I’m still giving this book a 4 stars rating; I... Meh So I really enjoyed how this series started It had an interesting and complex magic system a complex main character with tons of apparent hidden depth not Kip Gavin and it challenged your assumptions in interesting ways However as the series wore on the things that I enjoyed about this series got shoved into the backseat and we were subjected to less interesting characters unnecessarily convoluted plot twists and sections that just draaaaaagged pretty much all of Gavin's chapters post Ru But still the series had set up some interesting uestions as of the fourth book and I was hopeful we'd see a satisfying resolution in the final entry Andwe didn't Not really It's not nearly as bad as Night Angel's conclusion but the series is also much better written than Night Angel but it felt cheap ... There are few books let alone series that I would agree to re read at the drop of a hatThis is one of themI have so much fun so much respect for the sheer audacity the roaring plot lines the twists and the reveals even the funny ass uips that I usually ignore or gloss over any ACTUAL problems I might have had with the writing Or the original choice to make so many of our MCs so freakishly morally ambiguous So full of glaring faults and so eually full of fantastic heroism When we finally get to this last book in the Lightbringer series I'm hopelessly in love There is nothing that could stop me from devouring this book and crying and raging and even scratching my head and then railing against it Huh? Railing against the book? Well yeah If anyone knows the Jonah story and I assume everyone do... (Sign in to see more)

I had such high hopes for this series but alas at the 11th hour the series pivoted HARD to religious allegory where God solves all the problems Dues Ex Machina rules the day and the author is interested in giving you a sermon than an ending that makes senseMild spoilers to follow This series seems to follow in the footsteps of other popular Fantasy series with overt religious themes Mistborn Narnia etc inserting parables to create a mash up of Christian allegory and Fantasy In this case it’s off putting because it comes out of nowhere undermines the character arcs that have been building for the entire series and removes all tension from what had been a slow and masterful build up to an epic final battle For the first 4 books of the series the characters were acting through their own a... This was one of my favorite fantasy series The Burning White was a terrible ending to that 34s of the way through the book the Judeo Christian god shows up not only to preach but to hand out Deus Ex Machina like it is candy from a 4th of July parade float

disappointedThis series went from what I thought was going to be one of my very favorite series of all times to something I'll never read againWhat a fucking letdown The book was really slow going and there's so much deux ex machina so many bait and switch moments so many boss fights that were basically nothing and worst of all too much thinly veiled christian bullshit view spoilerThe entire book comes down to a salvation story where you're literally washed in the blood come back to life after 3 days and choose to follow god I'm absolutely livid that the book turned out to rest on stupid religious mumbo jumbo and sermonizing Also there's an airplane from another world and Andross Guile never has to answer for his sins Gavin gets all his abilities back no one dies except for Cruxer It's jus... This book gets weirdly religious all of a sudden This being a fantasy series you'd expect at least a creative take on religion but nope what you get here is a thinly veiled sermon on Christian theology with deus ex machina galore uite disappointing
